Planned with StoodioHub · Props and armour by 3D Excellence
How we make it
A film like this is a few minutes on screen and months of planning: who is needed where, when, in what costume, with which props, and how everyone gets home.
A small team, run like a real production
The Price of Freedom has a cast of 14, a crew of 31 spread across directing, camera, sound, costume, make-up, stunts and VFX, and locations that have to be found, scouted and booked. Nobody is paid to keep the spreadsheets in order. So we don't use spreadsheets.
Planned with StoodioHub
We plan the shoot in StoodioHub, a production app built alongside this film. The script goes in, and out come the scenes, the schedule and the stripboard. Every location is a pin on a map with its photos and the scenes shot there. Cast and crew sign up themselves, and each shoot day gets a call sheet, with each actor getting only their own pages of the script.

Props and armour by 3D Excellence
Every prop and piece of armour, made by us
No studio warehouse, no rented props. Every blaster, hilt and piece of armour in The Price of Freedom is designed and made in house, in association with 3D Excellence, a 3D printing studio on the Dorset coast.
Parts are designed digitally, printed in FDM and resin (SLA), then sanded, primed, painted and weathered by hand until they look like they've survived a war. Our producer and props master, Neil Taylor, leads the work.
- 1 Printed and assembled
- 2 Primed
- 3 Painted and weathered
Need something made? 3D Excellence prints prototypes, custom parts and small runs for makers, film-makers and fans across the UK.
On set, on a phone
On the day, everyone has their own call time, the call sheet and who's in yet, on their phone, even with no signal in the middle of a forest. Photos from set go into the same place, and the best of them end up in our shoot diary.

Screens from StoodioHub's demo film, The Long Walk Home. Our own shoot's details stay private.
Behind the scenes documentary
The making of, on camera
A behind-the-scenes crew is following the production with cameras of its own, for a documentary about how a fan film gets made: the auditions, the costume tests, the props, the shoot and everything after.
Backers will see it first.
