A long time ago, in a forest not far from here…

The Price of Freedom

It is a dark time for the Jedi. Order 66 has turned the clone army against them, and the few who survived are scattered across the galaxy, hunted and in hiding.

BAYLAN SKOLL has walked away from the Order, from the war, and from the Force itself. He wants only to disappear.

But deep in a forest on a quiet world, he feels something he has not felt in years: a vergence in the Force. Someone is near. Someone who is also hiding.

Before Ahsoka

Where it began

Fans met Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati in Ahsoka. The Price of Freedom goes back to the dark years after Order 66, to a Jedi in hiding and a girl with nowhere left to run.

A Jedi who survived Order 66 and has stopped believing in the Order that trained him. Years before he crosses paths with Ahsoka Tano, he is a man in hiding, and done with the Force. Until it finds him.

Shin Hati, played by Willow

Young, frightened, and far stronger than she knows. Long before she carries a lightsaber of her own, Shin is the one who is hiding.

Shin's mother. Every story about where Shin came from starts with her, and she's played by the granddaughter of Sir Alec Guinness, the original Obi-Wan.

The Force runs in the family

A Guinness returns to the galaxy

In 1977, Sir Alec Guinness became Obi-Wan Kenobi and gave the world “use the Force”. Nearly fifty years on, his granddaughter Sally Guinness steps into a galaxy far, far away herself.

Sally plays Jeyin Hati, the mother of Shin, in The Price of Freedom. It isn't her first brush with Star Wars: she had a cameo in The Rise of Skywalker, and has worked on Killing Eve and Extraordinary.

She's a studio potter, a gardener and a horse rider too. And now, a Hati.

The film

The Price of Freedom is an independent, non-profit Star Wars fan film made in the UK. It is an origin story for Baylan Skoll, set in the dark years after Order 66, and the first part of a planned three-part story.

It has been in development for more than a year, paid for by the team so far. The cast and crew mix working professionals with young talent the production is mentoring, and the film is made by people: no AI is used to write, cast or create it.

Expect characters with real loss behind them, plenty of action and adventure, and a lightsaber or two.

Meet the Akk dog

Not a stock asset and not an AI generation: the Akk dog is our VFX team's own take on a Star Wars creature never before seen in live action.

The creature designers studied comics, books and games, and animals here on Earth, to work out how it moves and how it looks, then built and animated it by hand.

Props and armour by 3D Excellence

Every prop and piece of armour, made by us

No studio warehouse, no rented props. Every blaster, hilt and piece of armour in The Price of Freedom is designed and made in house, in association with 3D Excellence, a 3D printing studio on the Dorset coast.

Parts are designed digitally, printed in FDM and resin (SLA), then sanded, primed, painted and weathered by hand until they look like they've survived a war. Our producer and props master, Neil Taylor, leads the work.

Planned with StoodioHub

How a fan film runs like a studio

14 actors, a crew of 32 across directing, camera, sound, costume, VFX and props, and a forest to find. We plan all of it in StoodioHub: the script, the schedule, the call sheets, the locations, and the photos from set that end up in our diary.

See how we make it

The diary starts here

Cameras roll on The Price of Freedom in late October 2026. This is where we'll post from the shoot: photos from set, what went right, what went sideways, and who made it work.

The post-production campaign

We are shooting the film on what the team has put in. What turns the footage into a finished film is post-production: editing, VFX, sound and music. That is where we need you.
